So far it's pretty good, but have a few feature requests.

1. option to make copied output paste to cursor and/or playhead
2. importing pitch bends from midi files
3. editing the phonetic content multiple notes in bulk (good for changing whole chords)

have a few more feature ideas now after using it a lot more. will keep updating this reply and top post when I have new ideas. ideas will crossed out when added.

Extra features:
1. music data export, add .ust, .kar (MIDI-Karaoke) and Lyric Meta-Event format support to match phonemes
2. closest rhyme match dictionary, for selected phonemes on the piano roll (changes your next phonemes into the result)

3. save export project path for current session and reimport
4. version numbering option for "export project" menu
5. importing lyrics from midis (see Extra Features. 1) to match with notes

this is an amazing app! really LOVEEE this so far. two small features that i would love to have are

the ability to select multiple notes in pencil mode on a macbook touchpad. maybe like FL studio where you hold a modifier key (command, control, option, etc) and drag the pointer to select multiple notes without having to leave the pencil tool.

and the ability to play a specific note by just holding the note down with the pointer like Melodyne or Ableton. that would really improve my workflow but other than those. its perfect! intuitive to use. 11/10 would recommend.

LOVE this so far! Alarmingly feature complete for a beta, I’m scared!!! Really fun to play with, and for vocal synth sickos (MEEEEEE) seeing dennis klatt’s work get this kind of tribute is really cool

phoneme fun!

Seconding I_am_yuzaniki’s comment that the [dx] phoneme sounds more like a tapped fricative to me, it’s great for english but I think a different sound for the Japanese dx/R is needed.

I also want to say the K and G sounds are a bit off - the G almost isn’t harsh enough, and I’ve found that I need to use the K instead sometimes … buuuuut, that’s a forever problem in vocal synths and I’m pretty sure DECtalk has it too, as all consonants are hell forever. so it’s an incredibly minor nitpick!!

features?

In the piano roll editor, would it be possible to extend a sound across two notes? This is much more of a UTAU feature so might be out of scope, but I’ve added a picture of what that looks like in openUTAU: image.png

bugs? user error? who knows!!

  • sometimes in the piano roll editor, clicking and dragging a note copies and pastes. not sure if a feature or bug, but if it is a feature, can we get a toggle? image.png
  • sometimes it won’t let me save and I don’t know why. I also don’t know why it starts working again, but it’s lead to some fun filenames: image.png
  • this seems to happen at the same time as being unable to save, but I’ll be unable to change or edit phonemes in the text or piano rolls.
  • exporting doesn’t output a backing track, if one was imported. this is probably a good thing actually, but it would be nice to have a toggle

WOW thank you for all the great feedback! adding a bunch of this stuff to my backlog right now. glad you’re having fun!

thank you so much!! I am having loads of fun, it’s so good!

one of the big things I forgot to mention is that text highlighting isn’t accurate, it’s kinda weird - you can see it in the browser version too. idk if its a font thing?

This app works BEAUTIFULLY for something that’s been out for, what, maybe two weeks? There are some minor issues that are actively being worked out, but the core functionality is SOLID. The classic text version from the website is embedded into the app, if you prefer that workflow, but for me the appeal is the piano roll. It’s got all the things you’d expect: tempo, metronome, MIDI import as of the recent update (1.4.0 as of me writing this). It’s got custom time signatures too but I haven’t fiddled around with that enough to really rate it (sorry ;;)

The dev is very responsive, if you come to him with an issue he’ll either help you fix it or push out a patch that fixes it within the next few days. I assume that as the app grows, this responsiveness will diminish, but that’s just a downside of (seemingly) being a one man team.

I’m excited to see where this project goes!!!

This is a great app!!! I really like the friendly tutorial guide. 9999/10

I have high hopes for the future. Keep up the good work!

<Small request>

I would like shortcut keys.

Examples: Space key to play, Delete key to delete notes, arrow keys to change the pitch of notes, etc.

<Regarding [DX]>

I heard that this was implemented as the Japanese "r" specifically for Japanese banks, but it seems to be optimized for the English "Flap-t" instead.

While the English "Flap-t" and the Japanese "r" are often represented by the same phonetic symbol, I believe they are actually quite different.

In Klattsch, [DX] sounds like a plosive and lacks any crossfade with the preceding vowel, but the Japanese "r" should have a smoother, more liquid-like sound than that.

P.S. I would like a feature to import MIDI (.mid) and UST (.ust) files!!!

Thank you so much for your comments! コメントをいただき、本当にありがとうございます!

Shortcut keys have been added in version 1.2.0 released just now! 先ほどリリースされたバージョン 1.2.0 でショートカットキーが追加されました!

Improvements for Japanese consonant sounds and MIDI import are both planned. 日本語の子音の改善とMIDIインポートの双方を計画しています。

I will investigate the possibility of UST import. USTインポートの可能性についても調査いたします。

Please note that the Google Play link above requires you to first enroll in the beta at https://klatts.ch! If you buy on itch, you don’t have to do that. It’s a Google Play requirement for newly launched apps.
